Adam Levine: I Was Uncool In High School; Shares Insight On Fellow ‘The Voice’ Coaches

Adam Levine keeps the girls swooning as the slinky-hipped soulful crooner for Maroon 5, but “The Voice” coach revealed he wasn’t always popular with the ladies.

“When I was 14-15, I think it was a little less cool to be in a band,” Adam told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Monday’s Access Hollywood Live. “I was very uncool, had disgusting long hair and shorts down to [to my knees], cut off shorts — I desperately wanted to be Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam really badly, and I was just a nerdy, awkward kid and I was obsessed with music.

“And eventually, once I realized that singing was something that girls like, which I didn’t know about really, [it became], just kind of ‘Wow… Oh my God, girls like this! I’m shocked!’” Adam recounted of his teenage revelation. “So I kept doing it — maybe for that reason (laughs).”

Adam is dating supermodel Anne V, and he told Billy and Kit he loves having her at his side – although he wouldn’t address if he may end up walking down the aisle with the runway beauty.

“I’m happy, and I’m in love,” he said.

At his side in his job as a celebrity coach on “The Voice” are Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Gree and Blake Shelton – and Adam revealed that when the NBC reality singing competition first came around, he wasn’t quite sure who the country singer was.

“I didn’t know who Blake was actually, to be totally honest, and then once I got to know him, he’s an amazing dude, and so funny,” Adam said. “He kind of totally demolishes whatever your idea of what a country artist is, and I love that about him.”

Adam said his relationship with Christina is akin to siblings, but Cee Lo makes him feel like he’s in a movie come to life.

“He is a unique creature. There is only one Cee Lo Green and I love that about him,” Adam said. “Sometimes I feel like ‘Men In Black’ — it makes me believe in aliens because, I feel like sometimes, every once in a while, there’s a little man in his head changing gears. He’s such a fascinating, such a sweet guy.”

“The Voice” airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC.
