Ahoy, Matey!: Hugh Grant At London Premiere Of ‘Pirates,’ His First Animated Role

Hugh Grant is stepping away from his usual romantic fare — to walk the plank.

The British actor is starring in “The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists,” his first animated film role. He will join co-stars David Tennant and Brian Blessed at the premiere in London on Wednesday.

Directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, the movie is the latest adventure from Aardman Animations, creators of “Wallace and Gromit.”

Grant plays Pirate Captain, whose quest is to win the Pirate of the Year award.

He takes his crew, voiced by Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey and Ashley Jensen, from Blood Island to London, helping David Tennant’s scientist along the way.

“The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists” opens in the U.K. on March 28. The U.S. release date is not yet confirmed.
