Alan Rickman’s ‘Harry Potter’ Co-Stars Pay Tribute To Late Actor

Alan Rickman’s “Harry Potter” co-stars have a lot
of “love actually” for the late actor.

Following the sad news of his death from cancer at age 69,
Rickman’s fellow Hogwarts alums took to social media on Thursday to honor the
man who brought Professor Snape to life on the big screen.

Daniel Radcliffe remembered Rickman with a lengthy tribute,
calling the British thespian “one of the greatest actors I will ever work
with.”

In a post shared on his Google Plus page, Radcliffe lauded
his longtime colleague for being “one of
the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film
industry,” and noted how “encouraging” he’d been “both on
set and in the years post-Potter.”

“I’m pretty sure he came
and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t
have to do that,” Radcliffe wrote, adding that Rickman’s generous persona
extended beyond his professional life.

“I know other people
who’ve been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say
‘if you call Alan, it doesn’t matter where in the world he is or how busy he is
with what he’s doing, he’ll get back to you within a day.'”

The now-26-year-old also
recalled how accommodating and respectful Rickman was in their
“Potter” days, kicking off back in 2001 when Radcliffe was just a
pre-teen.

“As an actor he was one
of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a
child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I
will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career,”
he continued. “Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the
loss of this great actor and man.”

Emma Watson, who played young
witch Hermoine Granger in the blockbuster fantasy series, also shared her
sorrow and echoed Radcliffe’s gratitude for having had the chance to know
Rickman.

“I’m very sad to hear
about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a
special man and actor,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “I’ll really
miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you.”

The UN Goodwill ambassador
and women’s rights activist also Tweeted a quote from Rickman in which he calls
himself a “feminist.”

Emma Thompson, better known
as Professor Trelawney to “Potter” fans, mourned the loss of her
friend and “ultimate ally” with an emotional tribute shared via New
York Times writer Dave Itzkoff
.

“This is hard to write
because I have just kissed him goodbye,” the actress, who played the
actor’s wife in “Love Actually,” confessed of Rickman.

“What I remember most in this moment of painful
leave-taking is his humour, intelligence, wisdom, and kindness. His capacity to
fell you with a look or lift you with a word,” she continued.

Adding, “He was the finest of actors and directors. I
couldn’t wait to see what he was going to do with his face next. I consider
myself hugely privileged to have worked with him so many times and to have been
directed by him.”

“Harry Potter” mastermind and author J.K. Rowling
Tweeted her memoriam to Rickman, and offered condolences for his family.

Other “Potter”
alums honoring Rickman include Jamie Campbell Bower, James and Oliver Phelps,
and Matthew Lewis.

Rickman’s final film,
“Alice Through The Looking Glass,” hits theaters in May.
