Alexa Ray Joel Hospitalized In Reported Possible Suicide Attempt

Alexa Ray Joel was hospitalized in New York City on Saturday afternoon after an apparent drug overdose, according to the New York Post and WABC News.

The Post reported that Alexa, daughter of musician Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital after a 911 call. Alexa allegedly ingested a number of sleeping pills in what authorities reportedly consider a suicide attempt.

A rep for the 23-year-old, a musician herself, confirmed to Access Hollywood that she was hospitalized and stable on Saturday.

“She is stable. Her doctors are assessing her needs. And that’s all we can say at this moment,” the rep said.

Alexa is scheduled to participate in a tree-lighting ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.

According to WABC, the singer recently split with her boyfriend.

Alexa’s latest single, “Invisible,” features lyrics about the end of a relationship, including the lines, “I gotta let it go / And this is not healthy anymore,” while in an August post on her MySpace page, she lamented her dating troubles.

“Just Men.  UGH!!! MEN!!!!,” she wrote at the time. “I don’t like dating!!! Wish I could be in a relationship again without having to date… I HATE going out!! I’m a homebody and a workaholic… I don’t like going out and drinking to meet men!!!  I always have to drag myself out the door to get up the motivation to go out, and when I do go out, I don’t meet anybody!”
