American Idol: Angie Miller Talks Boston Song Dedication

“American Idol” contender Angie Miller dedicated one of her performances to the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy on Wednesday night’s show and the singer says it was a challenge to make it through the performance without succumbing to tears.

“[It was] definitely hard,” the 18-year-old Beverly, Mass., native told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman following “Idol” on Wednesday, when asked if it was difficult to power through the performance given the gravity of the situation.

Angie sang The Pretenders’ famous ballad, “I’ll Stand By You,” a song which worked perfectly for Boston — even though she made the selection prior to the marathon.

“It was amazing how the lyrics in the song went so well with everything that happened,” she said. “I just knew that I wanted to dedicate this song to Boston and I’m so glad I could do that.”

The singer said the tragedy hit especially close to home since she had loved ones at the race.

“I had lots of friends that were there and saw it and ran,” she said. “I’m just so glad that all of them are OK. But my heart goes out to all the people that are not OK.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, on Wednesday night’s “Idol,” after seemingly taking a brief moment of silence, Angie dedicated her performance to Boston, saying, “This is for my hometown.”

Judge Mariah Carey was impressed by the singer’s tribute.

“Of course, all of hearts and prayers go out to everyone in Boston. That was a beautiful dedication,” Mariah said. “Thank you for that, on behalf of their friends and families and loved ones, such a beautiful thing to do.”
