American Music Awards Tonight: Nominees Rundown

LOS ANGELES (November 21, 2006) — Does “High School Musical” have what it takes to upset Nickelback or the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

That’s one of the questions that will be answered tonight, when they face off at the American Music Awards.

They’re all up for favorite pop/rock album of the year.

Nick Lachey, Sean Paul and Kanye West are up for pop/rock male artist, and Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and Nelly Furtado compete in the female artist category.

The groups up for the pop/rock award are Nickelback, the Chili Peppers and Pussycat Dolls.

Other nominees include the Black Eyed Peas, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Eminem.

The awards will be shown live from Los Angeles tonight on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel will host.
