Another Surprising Elimination On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

It was movie week on “Dancing with the Stars,” but despite inspiration from a box office smash, one celebrity’s performance proved to be a ballroom bomb, leading to their elimination from the competition.

(Spoiler: This story contains the results from Tuesday’s “Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show.”)

It truly was a “Mission: Impossible” for Chynna Phillips and professional partner Tony Dovolani, who after a disastrous tango to the theme from the Tom Cruise box office franchise (and originally, the 1960s television series) became the fourth couple to be cut from the competition.

“I’m disappointed. I’m sad, but I have to take responsibility,” Chynna said, referring to her dance on Monday where her mind went blank and she forgot her steps — only getting through with subtle cues from Tony.

“I messed up,” she continued, before praising Tony, calling her Season 13 partner, “amazing.”

Chynna was originally a leaderboard frontrunner, coming out strong in Week 1 with a tie for the top spot (with J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff) and later, landing in the top half of competitors each week.

On Monday, however, Chynna and Tony received their lowest scores, tying Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer, and Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus for sixth place.

Nancy and Tristan, as well as Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke, were the other competitors who did not learn their “Dancing” fate until the end of the night on Tuesday’s results show.

Chaz and Lacey were saved very early on in the evening, and Chaz’s mom, Cher, even Tweeted she hopes to return to the ballroom to cheer on her son.

“YEAH ! CHAZ GETS 2 DANCE ANOTHER WK! THANK U,” Cher Tweeted — in all caps — as the show ended. “DOES THIS MEAN IM ABOUT 2B CAST MEMBER OF DWTS? I might HAVE 1 MORE CAMEO UP MY SLEEVE.”

Aside from the elimination news, “Dancing’s” own big screen beauty – two-time mirrorball champ Julianne Hough — returned to the ballroom for the first time in more than two years, performing a modern dance to a slowed-down version of “Holding Out For A Hero” alongside her “Footloose” co-star, Kenny Wormald.

As that number concluded, a gaggle of dancers in “Footloose” style clothing, hit the stage showing off their line dance moves, as country star (and coach on NBC’s “The Voice”) Blake Shelton performed the Kenny Loggins’ classic “Footloose,” which he re-did for the movie reboot.

The dances received a standing ovation, bringing Julianne to tears.

“I’m emotional,” Julianne admitted.

Later, she reunited with brother Derek Hough, taking the stage with a rousing dance full of flips and fancy moves to “Shake A Tail Feather.”

“Dancing with the Stars” returns for its fifth week of competition on Monday at 8/7 C on ABC.
