Apolo Anton Ohno: ‘I’m 50/50’ On Competing In 2014 Winter Olympic Games

Olympic eight-time medalist Apolo Anton Ohno has his sights set on the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia – but will he end up competing?

The speed skater, former “Dancing with the Stars” winner and recent Olympic broadcast correspondent for NBC at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Thursday, where he discussed his possible future on the ice.

“Today is the day that I’m supposed to announce whether I put my name back into the pool that’s going to continue on to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics,” Apolo told Kit Hoover and guest co-host Cheryl Burke.

But the star is still trying to decide on the road ahead.

“I’m still not sure yet,” the 30-year-old said.

Apolo said he felt Olympic fever while in London working for NBC – but didn’t want to get carried away while pondering his Olympic future.

“The games are in my blood… it’s the best feeling in the world,” he said, but explained that he did not make up his mind about competing again while covering the Summer Olympics. “I couldn’t make the decision while I was in London. It’s just the wrong place to make a decision because you’re somewhat biased and swayed towards, ‘Yes, I want to do it again.’”

The athlete said he’s very mindful of the amount of work and dedication needed to compete.

“It’s a commitment like no other,” he said. “I close the curtains, no one sees me… for two years and I go into a bubble… I eat, sleep, train, repeat… nothing else.”

So will Apolo submit his name to compete?

“I’m 50/50,” he told Kit and Cheryl. “I don’t know yet… I haven’t been able to come to a definite answer or decision.”

Adding, “I probably will submit my name to the pool.”

Even though he’s likely to submit his name, seeing Apolo on the ice is not a sure thing.

“When I submit my name all it just says that I have opportunity to compete, whether I do start training and go down that path is another story,” he said.
