Avril Lavigne Files For Divorce Over ‘Irreconcilable Differences’

Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley over “irreconcilable differences,” according to court papers obtained by Access Hollywood.

In papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday by an attorney for the “Girlfriend” singer, she lists their date of separation as September 4, 2009, three years and one month after their July 15, 2006 wedding.

The estranged couple has no children. Avril has asked that Deryck not receive spousal support.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Avril announced her separation – but not a divorce – from her rocker spouse on her Web site in September.

“Deryck and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart,” she wrote at the time.

“Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note,” she continued.
