When Bella Thorne wrote her novel, “Autumn Falls,” the actress drew upon her own personal struggles.
“It’s my baby, I loved writing it,” she said of her first novel.
One of the book’s most powerful events is something the 17-year-old faced in her own life.

“I lost my father when I was 9 in a motorcycle accident,” she told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live. “That one scene when [the main character’s father] passes away in the book is exactly what happened [to me.]”
For Bella, dealing with the loss of her father was not how many people imagine it.
“It’s not necessarily all tears and freaking out. I was in such a state of shock for such long time. I remember the first time I actually cried about it was maybe a week after and the whole time I was just kind of confused,” she explained.

The death of Bella’s father is something the actress is still coping with.
“[Death] never gets easier. There are some times when you don’t think about it as much and there are some times where you’re like, ‘I’m gonna grab a cup of coffee’ and my dad will never be able to grab a cup of coffee with me and that’s so hard,” she said, getting emotional.
“Autumn Falls” is available now.
