Clint Eastwood’s “A Star Is Born” remake has lost its star.
Beyonce was set to play the role Barbra Streisand starred in opposite Kris Kristofferson, but was forced to exit due to scheduling conflicts, Variety reported.
The Grammy winner and “Dreamgirls” star released a statement to E! News.
“I was looking forward to the production of ‘A Star Is Born’ and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood,” Beyonce told E!. “For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together.”
The project is also still without a male lead, but leading man names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper have reportedly been in the mix.
Eastwood’s take on the story – about a young singer who falls for a older, fading singer – will be the love story’s fourth big screen incarnation. Janet Gaynor and Fredric March starred in the original in 1937, followed by a remake in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason and then the Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson version most recently in 1976.
