Beyonce Speaks About Her Past Depression

NEW YORK (December 15, 2006) — In 2000, right when Destiny’s Child had a hit album with “The Writing’s On The Wall” and they won their first Grammy, Beyonce’ Knowles was depressed.

She tells Parade magazine that’s when LaTivia Roberson and LeToya Luckett quit the group and sued her father for mismanagement.

Knowles says she didn’t eat and stayed in her room in what she calls “that lonely period.”

She says she questioned who she was and who her friends were. She says that’s also when her privacy was over. She says before that the media didn’t pay any attention to her personally, but after that, she felt “attacked.”

On top of that, she had broken up with the boyfriend she had had since she was 13.

Knowles says her mom finally told her, “Why do you think a person wouldn’t love you? Don’t you know how smart and sweet and beautiful you are?”

Knowles says after that she realized she had only two choices: give up or move on.
