Blake Shelton took to social media to remember his late brother, Richie Shelton, on the 25th anniversary of his death.

“Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton,” he wrote. “He’s still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could’ve known him.”

Richie died in a car accident in 1990 when Blake was just 14.

His tragic death served as the inspiration for Blake and now-ex-wife Miranda Lambert to pen their 2011 hit song, “Over You.”

The tearjerker ballad won the CMA award for Song of the Year award in 2012, and two ACM awards in 2013.
