Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continued their award show nomination domination as the real-life couple both earned Oscar nods Thursday morning.
Brad was honored for his work as a man aging in reverse in the David Fincher-directed movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Meanwhile, Angelina scored a nom for her role as a mother desperately searching for her kidnapped son in the Clint Eastwood-directed period piece, “Changeling.”
Though both heads of the Pitt-Jolie family have a lot to celebrate today, Brad told Access Hollywood at the 2009 Golden Globes that he prefers when Angelina is the only one from the family in the award show spotlight.
“It’s just fun when she’s up and then you don’t have anything to think about but hanging out,” the actor told Access earlier this month of their double Globe nomination night.
Despite this past award show jitters, Brad said he was honored with his nomination following Thursday’s announcement.
“This is a great honor for the movie, and I’m especially happy for David Fincher, for without him there would be no ‘Ben Button,’” the actor said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.
Angelina echoed her Brad’s sentiments in a statement regarding her nomination for “Changeling,” along with the Best Animated Feature Film nod for “Kung Fu Panda,” which she voiced a character in.
“Working with Clint Eastwood was a reward in itself that will last me a lifetime. To receive a nomination from the Academy on top of that is a privilege beyond any expectation. It has been an exceptional year for acting, and I am honored to be in the company of these talented actors whose performances all deserve this recognition,” the actress said in a statement released to Access. “I am also happy that ‘Kung Fu Panda’ also was noticed by the Academy and proud to be a part of a film my entire family loves so much.”
Brad will compete against Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor”); Frank Langella (“Frost/Nixon”); Sean Penn (“Milk”) and Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”).
Angelina will have some stiff competition from Anne Hathaway (“Rachel Getting Married”) ; Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”); Meryl Streep (“Doubt”) and Kate Winslet (“The Reader”) who are all vying to take home a statue on Oscar night.
