Britney Spears has been charged with misdemeanor hit and run, Access Hollywood has learned.
The LA City Attorney’s Office filed charges on Friday afternoon against Brit, including one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California driver’s license.
The misdemeanor charges, which stem from an August 6 parking lot incident, each carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
As it turns out, Access has learned no California driver’s license has ever been issued to the 25-year-old pop star.
Britney’s arraignment has been scheduled for October 10. She is not required to appear in court for the arraignment.
Access Hollywood has placed a call to the offices of her new attorney Sorrell Trope to see if he would be representing in the matter. No one was available for comment.
On Friday afternoon, a sobbing Britney Spears was photographed in West Los Angeles near Trope’s office.
Earlier this week, a judge ruled the pop star would be subjected to random drug and alcohol testing twice a week.
The ruling came as she continues to battle Kevin Federline for custody of the couple’s two children – Sean Preston and Jayden James.
, a judge ordered the tests for the pop star, stating “Based on the Evidence presented, the Court finds that there is a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol by the Petitioner” (Spears).
However, the court also said the results of those tests will not be made public.
The court also mandated that “neither party shall consume alcohol, or other non-prescription controlled substances” while with the kids or within 12 hours immediately prior to having custody of the kids.
Following the court’s ruling, Britney partied the night away at various Hollywood hot spots including Hyde and Winston’s nightclub.
