Carly Rae Jepsen Talks Ariel Transformation For Little Mermaid Music Video

Disney removed the “maybe” and definitely called Carly Rae Jepsen when they were looking for a new star to sing “Part of Your World” for the upcoming “The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition” release!

The singer was more than happy to lend her pipes to the iconic song, and even dyed her hair Ariel-red for the gig (though she was told that wasn’t necessary).

“I kept [color], as you can see,” a scarlet-haired Carly Rae told Access Hollywood Live’s Kit Hoover and guest co-host Alfonso Ribeiro, when asked about her new bright hue. “I just kind of fell in love. I’m Ariel in real life now! I’m still enjoying it – I’m sure it will run its course.”

While prepping to film the video for the 1989 hit, Carly Rae encountered a new dilemma.

“The best part of the music video part was when my stylist called and asked me, ‘Do you know what your fin size is?’ I’m like, ‘Is that a normal question?!’” she said, laughing.

The singer wears a mermaid tail in the video and she confessed she didn’t want to part with it after the shoot.

“It moved mechanically and it was very hard to get into and out of – especially out of, because I was so happy being a mermaid that I didn’t want to take it off,” she said. “It was a bit of a wrestling match.”

In addition to wrapping up her international “Summer Kiss” tour and her “Little Mermaid” gig, Carly Rae is dating singer-songwriter Matthew Koma and reconciling their schedules so that they can see each other takes work.

“We’re in different parts of the world most of the time, but the sacrifice for not getting to see each other is not as bad as the fact that when we do it’s like, ‘We’re going to go for a date in Paris tonight!’ Or, ‘Do you want to meet in Mexico?’” she said. “So I think we’ve got a lot of romance, which for artists like us is kind of a lot of songwriting material in that.”

“The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition” is available on October 1.
