Casting Call: Johnny Depp To Play Dr. Seuss In Live-Action Biopic

Johnny Depp is stepping into some extremely imaginative shoes!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will star in a live-action movie about beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Geisel.

Depp will reportedly produce the movie, which “In Treatment” writer Keith Bunin has been hired to write. Universal Pictures is slated to distribute the biopic.

The live-action movie could incorporate some animated elements.

Geisel, whose books have sold more than 200 million copies around the world, was born in 1904. After working as an artist in advertising and comic strips, Geisel began writing his famed books by 1950. The author died in 1991 at the age of 87.

A big screen adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic, “The Lorax,” with Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Ed Helms and Willow Smith lending their voices, is slated to hit theaters in March 2012.
