Charlie Rose Lands Sean Penn Sit-Down About El Chapo Interview

After interviewing Mexican drug lord El Chapo for Rolling Stone, it’s Sean Penn’s turn for the interviewee seat.

Penn will sit down for an interview with CBS “This Morning’s” Charlie Rose, the anchor announced on Tuesday at the CBS portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Tour.

Rose said he and Penn met up the previous evening, but have not yet sat down in front of cameras.

“When it will happen will depend on when we can agree in terms of a date to do it and that obviously has to do [with] issues that I’m not familiar with, with respect to him,” Rose said, when AccessHolllywood.com asked about his Penn interview during Tuesday’s panel.

He added that he hoped the interview would happen “sooner than later.”

“I’m prepared to do it whenever I get the green light from him and his lawyers and whoever else he speaks to,” Rose said.

The journalist wasn’t able to detail to reporters exactly what he and Penn spoke about on Monday.

“I was interested in what happened so I went to talk about that. He did ask me to save whatever conversations we have for the interview and I promised I would do that,” Rose said.

Rose said he expects his sit-down with Penn to be the first time Penn talks about his controversial Rolling Stone interview with the now-captured Mexican drug lord.

“I don’t think he will be doing any other interviews until we sit down,” Rose said.
