Cinemax Renews New Series Banshee For Season 2

Cinemax has picked up “Banshee,” its new drama from “True Blood” creator Alan Ball and showrunner Greg Yaitanes, for a second season.

The cable network announced the news on Tuesday.

“Banshee,” which airs Friday at 10 PM on the network, stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con who assumes the identity of the late Sheriff of Banshee, the same town his ex-girlfriend/partner in crime Ana, lives as Carrie (Ivana Milicevic) with her new family.

“Every episode unexpectedly takes you on a turn,” Yaitanes told AccessHollywood.com in early January of the 10-episode first series. “There’s no filler in a season of ‘Banshee.’ In fact, every inch of ‘Banshee’ tells the story. Our title sequence changes every week, we have a scene at the end of the credits… I’ve gotta say — fast forward if you dare.”

As fans have seen so far, each episode of the series has been packed with drama, and Yaitanes said the ending (which is about six weeks away from airing on Cinemax) even left some people behind the scenes scratching their heads over how the show could come back for a Season 2.

“We had kind of an edict that we’d go at every season as if it were our last. We put it all out there,” he told Access. “The best compliment we got, when we turned in the finale script was ‘How are you going to come back from this next year? If there’s a Season 2, how will you come back from it?’ And we walked them through what could be a great Season 2 that we have planned.”
