Comic-Con: ‘Suicide Squad’ Makes Surprise Appearance, Unveils First Teaser

Did they use their Get Out of Jail free cards? The cast of “Suicide Squad” made a surprise appearance during the Warner Bros. Comic-Con panel on Saturday.

The actors playing DC’s most unconventional heroes took the Hall H stage in the San Diego Convention Center to promote the upcoming film, and introduce a first-look sizzle reel of the villainous gang’s big screen debut.

“We are banging out something that is absolutely fantastic,” star Will Smith told the audience.

Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman and Margot Robbie were also on hand to greet fans, along with director David Ayer. Although Jared Leto couldn’t make it to the annual pop culture celebration, the Oscar winner was featured in the teaser and gave fans an exclusive peek of his signature baddie, The Joker.

“I’m not going to kill you, I’m just going to hurt you really really bad,” he sneers in the clip.

Meanwhile, Smith’s character, Deadshot, is busy trying to motivate the motley crew.

“So that’s it, we’re the patsies,” he says. “We’re some kind of suicide squad. So let’s save the world.”

Shooting may still be underway in Toronto, but Ayer is already proud of the movie and the cast. The “Fury” and “End of Watch” filmmaker even took a swipe at the competition when boasting about his latest project.

“Who’s got the best bad guys out there? DC Comics,” he said. “‘I’m not trying to start no East Coast/West Coast feud with Marvel Comics, but someone has got to say the truth.”

Marvel’s absence from the annual pop culture bonanza left ample room for its rival to unveil one geek-out moment after another, including a new trailer for December’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

“Suicide Squad” follows a misfit band of prisoners enlisted to carry out a top-secret government mission in exchange for criminal exoneration. The film is slated for release on Aug. 5, 2016.
