Dress ‘Resembling’ Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscars Gown Found

Lupita Nyong’o’s missing Oscar dress has possibly been located.

The Los Angeles Sheriffs Department issued a press release on Friday night announcing that West Hollywood Detectives received a phone call from a member of the media on Friday afternoon, notifying authorities that they had received an anonymous tip regarding the whereabouts of the pearl-covered dress.

The anonymous tipster said the Calvin Klein creation could be found in an abandoned bathroom on the second floor of the London Hotel in West Hollywood, Calif. When detectives investigated this tip, they found a black garment bag underneath the counter containing a white gown “resembling the one worn on Oscar night by Lupita Nyong’o,” the Sgt. Richard C. Bowman wrote in the release.

“All of us at Calvin Klein are thrilled to know that the dress has potentially been located,” Francisco Costa, women’s creative director at Calvin Klein Collection, told WWD. “This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her. Once it’s returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand.”

The actress also issued a statement to WWD, expressing relief that the $150,000 dress may have been returned.

“Collaborating with Francisco Costa for my Oscar dress this year was such a special and unforgettable experience. I’m happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art,” told WWD.

The dress was first reported missing from Lupita’s hotel room on Wednesday.
