Elizabeth Henstridge & Adrianne Palicki Preview ‘Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ S3

One of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s” biggest Season 2 cliffhangers involved the mysterious disappearance of Jemma Simmons into the Kree stone.

The show returns to ABC on Tuesday night for Season 3, and in the weeks ahead, we’ll learn more about what happened to Simmons, according to Elizabeth Henstridge, who plays the character.

“We’ll find out pretty quickly where she is, and what’s happened to her will have a huge impact on the rest of the season,” Elizabeth told Access Hollywood at the Season 3 premiere screening of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in Los Angeles last week.

“But all I care about is that they didn’t get their date,” she added of the romantic outing with Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) that never happened. “They were meant to be going on this fancy dinner, so I just hope, I don’t know, that it can happen still.”

Beyond the Simmons mystery, the new season will introduce more Inhumans to the show, as well as a rival agency led by Rosalind Price (Constance Zimmer). Asked how the show plans to maintain, or even surpass its current momentum while staying true to the relationships that keep fans invested, Adrianne Palicki, who plays agent Bobbi Morse, hinted that Season 3 sets a new bar.

“I think this year is even crazier,” Adrianne told Access.

“Things are going in so many different directions, people are paired up. … There’s been quite a big explosion within ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,'” she teased.

Bobbi and Hunter have a complicated history, but recent events have left them in an especially delicate spot.

“At this point, they’ve been through so much. She has saved his life,” Adrianne said, mentioning the Season 2 finale moment when her character took a bullet meant for Hunter. “You know, that’s the ultimate, I think, showing of love to somebody else, and she’s going to be suffering from it as well.

“She’s missing part of a lung and her knee’s busted, so I think he might feel a little responsible as well,” the actress added. “It’s going to be an interesting dynamic.”

Bobbi’s ailments could also keep her on the combat sidelines for a time.

“She might be taking a little hiatus from fighting, which I think is going to be Bobbi’s struggle in the beginning of the season,” Adrianne said. “Her identity’s been completely thrown away.”

Of course, she pointed out, Bobbi ‘s physical skills aren’t her only asset.

“She’ll be in the lab. She’s also a biochemist, obviously,” Adrianne smiled.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9 PM ET/PT on ABC.
