Eva Mendes: I Want To Be More Than ‘Sexy’

Eva Mendes has heated up such films as “Hitch” and the upcoming “The Other Guys” and sizzled in the buff for Calvin Klein, but the star wants to be known for more than her good looks.

“I don’t want ‘sexy’ to be my defining characteristic,” she told the August 2010 issue of Allure magazine. “I’m definitely responsible for the image that I put out there… but… I’d love for my ambition and will and intellect and sense of humor to define me as well.”

The star, who posed for the mag in a form-fitting leopard print top, added that her appeal may come from her healthy self-image.

“I have worked very hard to love myself, and I do,” Eva said. “I think that’s what people may respond to with me.”

She also opened up on her long relationship with her boyfriend, director George Augusto, and explained why he doesn’t tag along when she hits the red carpet.

“I understand that because of my profession, I need to be open to… a lot. But he doesn’t. It’s not fair to drag him into that,” she added.

One leading man she does drag around? Her Belgian Malinois dog, Hugo – a bigger animal than the usual star pooch.

“We had the greatest cuddle session last night,” she told the mag. “I love him. But yes, he’s for protection.”
