Exclusive: Tyrion Lannister’s Squire, Podrick Payne, Cast For ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 2

Peter Dinklage is getting some help as his “Game of Thrones” character, Tyrion Lannister, heads to King’s Landing for Season 2.

Access Hollywood can exclusively reveal that actor Daniel Portman has been cast as Tyrion’s squire, Podrick Payne.

Podrick is actually in the first book in author George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, but was not shown in Season 1 of the HBO series.

He becomes an invaluable ally to Tyrion as the imp becomes the King’s Hand in Season 2.

Portman appeared in the 2010 horror film “Outcast,” alongside “Dr. Who” star Karen Gillan. He also has a small role in the upcoming 2012-due film, “The Angel’s Share.”

In the books, Podrick is not yet a teenager, but it is likely that producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss aged-up the character as they did for several other characters in the books.

In related “GOT” casting news, Alfie Allen’s “Game of Thrones” character Theon Greyjoy is getting a dad for Season 2.

British actor Patrick Malahide will play Lord Balon Greyjoy, Theon’s stern father from the Iron Islands, HBO confirmed to Access Hollywood.

WinterIsComing.Net first reported the Malahide/Balon casting news.

Balon enters the drama when Theon heads off to his original homeland (he was the ward of Eddard “Ned” Stark in Season 1) and finds his father in a less than welcoming mood.

Malahide has been seen in the BBC America drama “Law & Order: UK,” alongside former “Battlestar Galactica” actor Jamie Bamber.

He also appeared in Season 2 of another BBC America show, “Survivors.”

In related news, HBO confirmed earlier this week that the production will shoot on two additional locations for Season 2 – Croatia and Iceland, the latter locale actor Kit Harington first revealed to Access Hollywood at Comic-Con 2011 in July.

“This season we’re going to Iceland,” Kit previously told Access. “Iceland, late in the year, is gonna be pretty freezing, so that’s gonna be a bit of a task.” Click HERE to watch that clip.
