Faye Resnick: How She Feels About FX’s ‘People V. O.J. Simpson’ (Exclusive)

Faye Resnick has exclusively shared
with Access Hollywood her feelings about FX’s new miniseries, “The People
v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

“Ever since it was announced that Ryan Murphy intended to
produce ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson,’ I have been inundated
with the question as to ‘How do I feel about it?’ All I can say is, for me, it
was personally the most heartbreaking tragedy that altered my life
forever,” Resnick revealed in an exclusive statement to Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

Resnick was a close friend of both Nicole Brown
Simpson and Kris Jenner (with whom she remains close), and she told Access she
is still haunted by the 1994 murder of her friend Nicole and Ron Goldman to
this day.

“To lose my loving friend
Nicole, who seemed at one point to defy the odds of surviving domestic abuse is
beyond devastating. The thought of reliving the events of her death and the
trial that followed is catastrophic to say the very least,” she shared in
her statement to Access.

O.J. Simpson pled no contest to spousal battery
charges in 1989 in connection with an altercation with Nicole on New Year’s
Eve. He later stated, “It was a really bum rap. We had a fight,
that’s all,” according to an article in the Los Angeles Times from
1994.  In 1995 he was acquitted of her murder.

Resnick told Access she is concerned
that the show will hurt those closest to Brown Simpson and
Goldman.

“My fear is that [‘The People v. O.J. Simpson’]
will only open painful wounds for all of us who loved Nicole and Ron and
just become another pointless media circus,” her statement continued.

“In the United States, a woman
is beaten in her home every nine seconds by the man they love. The sad
fact remains that there are less shelters for battered women and their children
in our country than there are animal shelters.

“My only wish is that the series serves as a call to
action to pass the bills that are pending on the floor of the Senate to continue to fund
Domestic Violence Shelters that 3.5 million women and children need as safe
havens.

“For anonymous and confidential
help with domestic abuse please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at
1.800.799.SAFE or 1.800.787.3224,” Resnick’s statement concluded.

Actress Connie Britton plays
Resnick in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,”
premiering February 2 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX. Resnick’s friend Kris Jenner is
being played by Selma Blair.
