Finalists Get Inspirational For ‘Idol Gives Back’

As if people needed a reason to vote on “American Idol”: now it’s saving lives. Ten cents of each call placed to vote for a contestant last night went to the “Idol Gives Back” charity effort to help the underprivileged both in Africa and in the U.S.

The contestants tried their best to win those votes, too.

Chris Richardson sang “Change the World,” which Simon Cowell called a “sexy performance.”

Paula Abdul called Melinda Doolittle’s singing “magical,” and Randy and Simonsayshe is a pro who could start recording and touring right now.

Blake Lewis and LaKisha Jones got mixed reviews on their performances, and the judges liked Phil Stacey.

Cowell told Jordin Sparks her rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” could be a hit record. Randy says she’s one of the best ever in Idol’s six years on the air.

Ryan Seacrest says Bono will be a mentor. He also says tonight’s show of all-star performances for charity will include, quote, “one of the biggest shocks we’ve ever had on ‘American Idol.”’
