Game Of Thrones: Stars React To The Red Wedding (Updated)

Some knew it was coming, others didn’t, but either way, finally seeing the much-anticipated Red Wedding scene in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” caught the attention of fans and celebrities alike.

Powerful performances from Richard Madden, who played King Robb Stark, Oona Chaplin, who starred as his wife Talisa, and especially from Michelle Fairley, the grieving widow and mother, Catelyn Stark, left television watchers more than misty eyed.

Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister (and is a mighty acting force of her own on the show), Tweeted on Monday morning that the grief Michelle put into the scene was palpable.

“I cried,” Lena Tweeted. “Michelle Fairley is one of my favorite actors to watch. She is so present . That howl for her son ripped through..

“My heart,” she added in a subsequent Tweet. “On a personal level I shall miss my pal.”

Robert Kirkman, author of “The Walking Dead” and an executive producer of the AMC show, which had its own fair share of major character exits in its Season 3, Tweeted, “Dear, Game Of Thrones. Wow.”

Kevin Williamson, who developed “The Vampire Diaries,” and created Fox’s “The Following,” wrote on Twitter, “Game of Thrones. OMFG. I repeat OMFG!!!”

“Hunger Games” actress Elizabeth Banks Tweeted she was floored by the episode.

“Holy Mother of F. I have nothing quippy or cool to say re: Game of Thrones. I’m shattered. #GoT,” she wrote.

Former “Chuck” actor Zachary Levi said the episode left him shell shocked.

“Hey, #GameofThrones, you win. You now have more of an impact on my emotional well being than anything else in life.#imnotokayrightnow,” he Tweeted.

Even talk show host Steve Harvey was upset by the huge moments, Tweeting, “WOW ! I did not see that coming!”

Frank Ocean wrote, “smh. red wedding was too hectic.” (smh means “shaking my head.”)

Ivana Milicevic, who stars in Cinemax series “Banshee,” another show with some jawdropping moments, wrote, “#GOT oh. My. GOD!!”

“Pretty Little Liars” actress Troian Bellisario said the episode left her down in the dumps.

“My outlook on life is bleak. But I’ve never been this low. Thanks #GOT for making me love things and then slaughtering them before my eyes,” she Tweeted.

Actress Jaime Murray, who has seen some TV violence as a former star of the “Spartacus” franchise (she’s now in “Defiance”), was still shocked.

“NOOOO #GAMEOFTHRONES WTF!?!?! How could you? Why, why, why???” she wrote.

Clay Matthews, linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, wrote, “Did You Know: George R. R. Martin’s writings are fueled by our tears.”

“The Twilight Saga’s” Rachelle Lefevre Tweeted, “I’m so traumatized by #GameofThrones tonight I can’t move from the couch. Just sitting here slack-jawed like a muppet. #HBO.”

“Suits” actor Patrick J. Adams (who Access spotted at the show’s premiere back in late March) Tweeted, “Thanks Game of Thrones for guaranteeing a few solid years of therapy. #sendingHBOmymedicalbills.”

Joe Jonas was affected to, writing, “Game of thrones. . . What just happened?”

Zach Braff commended the episode.

“Game of Thrones. A+,” he Tweeted.

DC Comics Chief Creative Office Geoff Johns was shocked too.

“GAME OF THRONES!!!!!!! WHAAAAT!?!?!??” was his reaction.

Actress Daisy Betts, most recently of ABC’s “Last Resort,” wrote, “Oh my… #gameofthrones! Too good.”

Oona Chaplin, who played Talisa (a character murdered at The Red Wedding), thanked fans on Twitter for their kind words.

“Thank you guys for the lovely comments about #GoT, really means a lot. Big love. #gameofthrones #epic,” she wrote.

Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Daenerys Targaryen’s companion, Missandei on “Game of Thrones,” Tweeted, “Oh my Gaaaaarrrrsh! Just watched episode 9 of @GameOfThrones…. Aaaargh DAMN YOU LORD FREY!!!!”

“Game of Thrones” actor Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick Payne, complimented Michelle on her performance, writing, “Sad to see my great pal @RealMsFairley go in Thrones tonight. An amazing performance from a real pro. Hope you’re well pal!”

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers wrote, “Can’t believe the Starks have been wiped out on GOT. At least the mother of dragons is still alive. #hot #midrange.”

Jon Favreau opted to write a funny Tweet.

“I don’t know which was more disturbing, the red wedding on #got or Rob Lowe’s makeup on #behindthecandelabra,” he posted.

Comedy Central star Amy Schumer Tweeted, “‘Saw it comin’ me about #GOT.”

Director Joss Whedon noted he didn’t see the episode, but it inspired his Tweet.

“Not up on “Thrones” but hear George killed more peeps – can he PLEEZ have my rep now so I can stop hearing about it? #gettingold,” he wrote.

“Spartacus” actor Liam McIntyre, whose own franchise wrapped up with a series of brutal death scenes earlier this year wrote, “Wow. Really @GameOfThrones ? I don’t know if I actually want to watch you anymore after that. I’m actually kind of annoyed. Boo.”

Former “The Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara Tweeted, “Wow. Game of Thrones brings it. #FeelGoodShowOfTheYear.”

Director Jon Cassar (“24”,“Revolution”) Tweeted, “Game of Thrones – for those still in shock, now you you know why your nerdy friend who read the books was depressed 10 years ago.”

“Arrow” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim Tweeted, “The number of people who were shocked by Sunday’s Game of Thrones is directly proportional to the number of people who have never read GOT.”

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, posted this adorable Vine.
