Gigi Hadid Stuns On Vogue Arabia’s First Cover: Why The Shoot Was So Meaningful To Her

Gigi Hadid’s
latest magazine shoot might be her most personal one yet.

The model
graces the cover of Vogue Arabia’s very first issue, and took to Instagram on
Wednesday to share how the opportunity helped her connect with her heritage.

“Being
half-Palestinian, it means the world to me to be on the first-ever cover(s) of
@voguearabia,” Gigi wrote, captioning two photos of her dual
black-and-white cover images.

“And I hope that this magazine will show another layer of the fashion industry’s desire to continue to accept, celebrate, and incorporate all people & customs and make everyone feel like they have fashion images and moments they can relate to… & learn and grow in doing so,” she continued.

Gigi also celebrated the fashion mag’s multi-national reach, as Vogue Arabia marks the publication’s 22nd edition.

“I think the beautiful thing about there being international Vogues is that, as a fashion community, we are able to celebrate, and share with the world, different cultures,” she wrote.

Both covers feature the 21-year-old wearing an intricately beaded headscarf, with one shot keeping her famous face almost entirely obscured. A dramatic smoky eye and bold bracelet complete her look, along with a chic, neutral manicure.

Vogue Arabia Editor-in-Chief  Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz told the mag that Gigi was the perfect candidate to help introduce the brand’s newest installment.

“The collage of countries across the Arab world are long-deserving of a place in fashion history,” she said. “And there’s no better first ‘face’ to lead the charge for Vogue Arabia than Gigi, a model who defines tomorrow’s entrepreneurial and dynamic generation.”
