Glam Slam: Beauty Quick Fixes For Summer

Summer’s here… and that means sun, sand and surf. It also means intense humidity, scorching rays and damaged strands.

“With the arrival of summer, we often find ourselves confronted with changing up our beauty routines or finding fixes for problems like frizzy hair,” says Holly Carter, beauty director for People StyleWatch.

Here are easy tips and product recommendations to help solve your biggest skin, hair and makeup issues:

Banish Ingrowns & Reduce Stubble:
It’s bikini season so it’s time to bare all! You can avoid unsightly (and sometimes painful) ingrown hairs by exfoliating the bikini area daily and applying a treatment with salicylic acid or witch hazel right after shaving or waxing. A great, inexpensive product like Sally Hansen Zero Bumps Bikini Spray, for $7.99, will do the trick.

Shield Hair From Chlorine & Salt Water:
This is really important when swimming at the beach or a pool. The secret is to coat hair from roots to ends with a moisturizing hair oil or protective treatment before getting in the water. A product like Davines SU Sun Oil, $28, works great.

Prevent Melted Makeup:
We all hate this look — when your makeup just slides off of your face on a sticky day. Try using a mattifying primer like Sephora’s Anti-Shine Foundation Primer, $17, to avoid shine and help makeup stay put. You can also try a thin layer on a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. This will keep you glowing, not melting!

Correct Self-Tanner Mistakes:
We’ve all seen this — self-tanner streaks. A great trick to even out color is to run an exfoliating mitt (try Stark Exfoliating Mitt, $15) over dry self-tanned skin, then rinse off. This should correct the color streaks and provide a more even bronze glow.

Combat Frizz:
It’s all about treating frizzy strands from start to finish. Go for shampoo and conditioner that are specifically formulated to smooth out hair. You can also add combat the fuzzies by adding a hair oil like Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, $38, to your conditioner or even using it before you blow-dry or flatiron. Lastly, finish your look with a spritz of frizz-fighting spray to lock out humidity.
