Glam Slam: Dresses For Every Body Type!

The busy holiday social season is about to start, which means invites to cocktail parties, office parties and New Years celebrations.

Finding a dress can be a daunting challenge, but designer David Meister is ready to help!

David’s designs are a red carpet staple, worn by everyone from Katherine Heigl and Queen Latifah to Drew Barrymore and Tina Fey. Even Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver purposely wore the same David Meister dress to the premiere of their film, “You Again” (BTW- I wore one of his gowns on the Emmy red carpet)!

David knows what looks good on a woman’s body and shares his tips to help find the perfect dress, no matter what your body type.

PEAR-SHAPED
“If you have a pear-shaped body like Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce, you should toss the tight, straight skirt in favor of an a-line skirt, a skirt with softness or an empire waistline to de-emphasize the lower half of your body. Select a two-toned dress with the lighter or brighter color above the waist and the darker tone below the waist. It’s always about emphasizing and highlighting what you want to show off and minimizing the rest.”

CURVY
“If you have a curvy body like Queen Latifah, it looks great and flattering to wear wrap dresses or dresses which pull in at the middle, аѕ it will emphasize the curvy body silhouette and give the illusion of a more defined waist. Avoid wearing dresses with pleats and ruffles as they add extra bulk. It’s always flattering to wear a V-neck and show some cleavage. If you are tall and curvy, really go for the drama! Make an entrance.”

ATHLETIC
“If you have an athletic body type like Jessica Biel or Halle Berry, you can really wear almost anything. I think it is interesting to go very simple and dramatic or choose a dress that gives your look a more feminine appeal. If you train and work hard, you want to show your body off. A high cross front halter or strapless is great for showing off toned shoulders. A dress with a tulip skirt will play up your hips and give more softness to your frame. Also, feminine details such as lace or trim at the waist can really flatter your torso and emphasize that hard worked for waistline.” Click here for dress options that work on athletic figures.

PETITE
“If you have a petite body frame like Jada Pinkett Smith or Eva Longoria, you should focus on elongating your legs and torso. Wearing a well-fitted cocktail dress with high heels ultimately creates an optical illusion, making you appear to be taller. It is all about proportion. A dress which falls above the knee with a small vertical print will emphasize length as well. Nude shoes are a great accessory as well. They don’t break the line of the body and elongate the leg.”
