Glam Slam: Fierce Fashion At The AMAs

There was plenty of fashion action at the American Music Awards last night. Some of it was good, but thanks to plenty of outrageous stars, a lot of it wasn’t!

Taylor Swift looked chic in her shiny metallic mini, but was nearly unrecognizable without her signature curls, going for sleek, straight hair. Fergie also went the metallic route, wearing a pewter and silver silk beaded dress by Zuhair Murad.

Katy Perry rocked a demure look in a pale pink strapless Badgley Mischka with floral detailing paired with Brumani jewels. “Yes, we like to be bedazzled,” she said of the jewelry. “You know, most of it’s rental though. I hate to burst like all these people’s bubbles, but we’re all wearing rentals. They’re all rentals.”

One piece that is not a “rental” though, is her wedding ring, courtesy of new husband Russell Brand. We asked her if she feels differently now that she’s married. “I think everybody feels different after they’re married. I think they feel completion. I feel good. I feel stress free. I feel relaxed. It’s nice.”

Miley Cyrus, who turns 18 tomorrow, wore a hand painted white and pink draped cocktail dress with an embroidered bow detail and train. “This is Marchesa and the jewels are Neil Lane. These are some of my favorite jewelry I’ve ever gotten to wear on a carpet. So I’m stoked.”

Kelly Osbourne showed off her slimed down figure in a strapless black Dior. “The dress came and I didn’t try any other dress on,” she said. “It came from Paris, from Christian Dior. It came straight from the runway and I put it on and I was like there’s no way that’s going to fit me. It’s been on a model. There’s no way. And I put it on and I was like, I don’t care how cold it is whether it rains or if it’s suddenly a hundred degrees. I’m wearing this dress.”

And she looked fabulous in it. Ke$ha also went with black, but if Kelly looked classy, the wild singer looked trashy. Literally. “The dress is custom. I had a flood in my basement earlier this year in Nashville and all of my VHS tapes got ruined. So, I decided to use them and I made a dress out of them.”

That’s one way to recycle! Although, I’m not sure this dress, with its plunging neckline and thigh high slit, was actually good for the environment. “I’m trying not to destroy my dress. My boobs are going to fall out. I caught them though. We’re good, ok.”

Ok, then! Rapper Nicki Minaj also made a bold statement with her colorful dress by Manish Arora, which she told us took some serious effort to get into.

“A very long time and coming here, I couldn’t even like sit down, I had to do this weird new thing that I learned kind of like sleeping in, you have to lay down in the back of the SUV and hope that you make it through.” She did, and joked about making sure she didn’t destroy the unique gilded embellishments.

“If you squash them, they’ll bite you,” she laughed. “So you have to just like take your time and feed them. I bought like little stuff like whatever the things are that you feed reptiles or whatever this is called, so you just have to maintain them.”
