Glam Slam: Get The Look — Natalie Portman’s Pretty Pony

Pregnant Natalie Portman looked radiant at the People’s Choice Awards in her blue Jason Wu dress, which was perfectly accented by her soft and sophisticated pony tail created by celebrity hair stylist John D.

“As far as determining the look for the evening, originally we had thought we would do a great head of tousled waves, leaving the hair down,” John says. “But once we looked at the dress again, I decided that something off of the shoulders would be better. That’s when I suggested the pony, which kept the look a bit lighter and more fun! “

John, who has also worked with Selena Gomez and Sienna Miller shares his step-by-step tips so you can get the look:

“I started by prepping Natalie’s towel dried hair, spraying Phytovolume Actif at the root to build in some lift.

Then I used equal parts Phyto 7 & Phyto Professional Glossing Cream (about a pea size drop of each) and emulsified that combo into his palms and ran it through the ends of her hair. This step builds in extra moisture and shine, which is great for hair that gets styled often.

After drying Natalie’s hair, I began curling, using a 3/4” Enzo Milano curling rod on sections about 1” square. Concentrate on getting lift at the base/root area.

After curling, I gave the hair a light misting with the Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray. Then I gave it a quick comb with my fingers.

Next, I sectioned out a small top section/bang area (to be pulled back). Then I began pulling the rest of Natalie’s hair back into a ponytail.

After securing the pony, I released out that top section. Parted slightly to the side, use any remaining length from that top section and wrap it around the base of the pony to conceal the elastic band.

I finished off the look with a final spray of the Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray.”
