Glam Slam: Grammy’s Fierce Fashion

Fierce fashion ruled the red carpet at the Grammys.

Golden Goddess Carrie Underwood took my top prize of best dressed in her floor length beaded Zuhair Murad gown. The gown fit her perfectly and her simple pulled back hair highlighted the bodice of the dress. And Carrie was part of the main trend of the night… sparkle.

Gwyneth Paltrow paired her short silver Versace dress with leggings while Leona Lewis glammed it up in gold. And the young Hollywood crowd didn’t disappoint. Miley Cyrus was sophisticated in a one shoulder Herve Leger by Max Azria while her self-proclaimed best friend Taylor Swift went with the Grecian Goddess look in a black Kaufman Franco with a plunging neckline. Both kept their looks classy on the red carpet and age-appropriate.

Also showing off their budding fashion sense were the Jonas Brothers. Youngest brother Nick went with all black, middle brother Joe added a little shine to a standard tux and oldest brother Kevin kept it classy in his traditional tux and bowtie.

But if there’s one red carpet awards show where you can take a risk – it is the Grammys. So I applaud Katy Perry for rocking the Bubble Gum Glam look. She went with a pink Basil Soda strapless dress for arrivals… Would I wear it? No. But, it perfectly suits her bubbly personality. Katy also revealed to us on the red carpet that she has a clever method for picking her performance ensembles. When she performed on the “Today” show in a watermelon jumper, she found the designer on MySpace!

It all can’t be good though – and there were many who disappointed.

With all the biggest and best designers on her speed dial, I was convinced Whitney Houston would come up in something absolutely fabulous. I thought her blue and beige dress was more fitting for under the sea instead of dry land.

And don’t get me started on Kate Beckinsale. It is true that she looked absolutely stunning, but so not Grammy appropriate. First of all, she’s not a musician so I’m not sure why she was there at all. Second, clearly she was not going to go home a winner so did she really need to wear a black ball gown with a train? I think not. She should have shown off her killer legs in something short and fun.

And then there’s Paris Hilton. Now we know she’s not winning any Grammys anytime soon and she didn’t even present like Kate did, so I’m really not sure why she was there. Her dress, complete with an oblong cutout on the bodice, looked like a metallic beach cover-up from 1992.

And John Mayer, dapper in a black Army style jacket and pants, told us his style is truly skin deep. He gave Shaun the 411 on how he keeps his hands so soft. The trick? First he exfoliates with a scrub – then loads on the shea butter. I wonder if he learned that from gal-pal Jennifer Aniston?
