New details have been revealed about Ryan Murphy’s original plan to end “Glee” with a final, emotional scene between Cory Monteith’s Finn Hudson and Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry.
This week, Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt from Murphy’s eulogy at a private memorial for Monteith, the late “Glee” star who died earlier this year, and it noted that the actor’s character would have become a teacher.
“The ending of ‘Glee’ is something I have never shared with anyone, but I always knew it. I’ve always relied on it as a source of comfort, a North Star. At the end of Season 6, Lea [Michele]‘s Rachel was going to have become a big Broadway star, the role she was born to play,” Murphy said. “Finn was going to have become a teacher, settled down happily in Ohio, at peace with his choice and no longer feeling like a Lima loser.”

Murphy even went on to reveal what the final lines were originally set to be.
“The very last line of dialogue was to be this: Rachel comes back to Ohio, fulfilled and yet not, and walks into Finn’s glee club. ‘What are you doing here?’ he would ask. ‘I’m home,’ she would reply. Fade out. The end,” Murphy said.
Monteith, a beloved member of the “Glee” cast, passed away in July in Vancouver, the result of a heroin and alcohol mix. He was 31.
“Glee” is currently in its fifth season on Fox. The series will conclude at the end of Season 6.
