‘Glee’ Stars Chris Colfer & Darren Criss Dish On Their Show’s New York Adventure & The Future Of Their Characters’ Relationship

Dreams are coming true for “Glee” cutie Chris Colfer — the handsome young actor successfully sold a self-penned children’s show to the Disney Channel last week, and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2011. His boyish face beams prominently from the highly respected periodical’s cover – an honor he had once privately hoped for years ago.

“I got an email from my history teacher saying that when I was in her class, when I was a sophomore, I photo-shopped my face onto a Time Magazine,” Chris, who plays Kurt Hummel, told Access Hollywood with a laugh, at the Time 100 Gala in Manhattan on Tuesday. “And so now, she has the fake one in her classroom and the real one!”

Chris attended the celebratory gala with his onscreen crush, musician/actor Darren Criss, who plays Blaine Anderson, who beamed with pride at his friend’s good fortune.

“[Chris] is an incredible, incredible guy. [Being] 20 years old, having accomplished as much as he has, is just so inspiring and so amazing,” Darren told Access. “He’s sold scripts, he’s producing things, he’s winning Golden Globes, and on sort of a more humanitarian philanthropic front, he’s doing so much as a spokesperson for young people. Just the fact that I get to call him a colleague is just the coolest feeling ever.

“I’m definitely shooing him all my love tonight,” Darren added with a smile.

The cast of “Glee” is currently filming on location in New York City — as the show’s New Directions choir will be traveling to the Big Apple onscreen for a national vocal competition – and Chris explained to Access that NYC’s local “Gleeks” have showed up in droves to show their support.

“It’s been crazy and insane! There have been thousands and thousands of fans that have come to greet us,” Chris told Access of the city’s fans. “Every time one of us raises an arm they all go nuts. It’s very supportive and very positive.”

Darren’s character is part of rival school choir The Warblers on the series, so the actor will not be part of the show’s New York plotline.

“I really don’t know a whole lot — I know [the cast] is hitting up some key New York spots. I heard they were in Times Square yesterday… I know they were in Central Park today,” Darren told Access. “I feel like they’ll hit up some New York staples, but other than that I don’t really know a whole lot. Blaine is sort of out of the picture right now, as I think he should be, but he’s still very much a guest to the larger picture of what’s going on the show.”

As for Blaine and Kurt’s budding TV romance, Darren said he’s happy to let their characters take a break while the show’s beloved stars party it up in the big city.

“Everyone always asks me what’s going with Kurt and Blaine and I think that relationship is sort of taking a backseat,” Darren told Access. “It’s time to focus on sort of the main characters that the fans have you know, known and loved for such a long time.”
