Grant Gustin On ‘Flash’/’Arrow’ Crossover: ‘Barry Loses His Mind’

The CW’s two-night “The Flash” and “Arrow” crossover event begins on Tuesday night, kicking off some seriously epic TV.

Access Hollywood caught up with Grant Gustin, and “The Flash” star dished on pitting The Bolt against The Bow, and filming the fastest man alive’s violent clash with The Arrow.

“It was a lot of fun. I got to essentially play a different character kind of in this episode,” Grant told Access at the “Flash vs. Arrow” crossover screening event in Los Angeles.

The usually (relatively) gentle Barry will turn against his friend/sometime mentor Oliver Queen/The Arrow (Stephen Amell) in the action-packed episode, due to a metahuman-related twist.

“Barry loses his mind in this episode and he doesn’t care who gets in his way,” Grant explained. “If you get in his way, he’s gonna call you out on it and tell you to get out of his way.”

Grant – whose character will return to Starling City to help out The Arrow’s team on the second night of the crossover – said Stephen had a tougher time adjusting to the crossover, as he had to conquer a technique “The Flash” cast is already used to: slo-mo acting.

“[Stephen] had to do a lot of new things,” Grant told Access with a laugh. “I actually didn’t, because we brought our [visual] effects team over and we kind of were doing ‘Flash’ on ‘Arrow.’ A lot of it was new for them.”

For Grant, filming on the “Arrow” set again was “like going back home.”

“It was how we all met this character and we had guys working on the show who had worked on the pilot, and we all felt really comfortable and at home,” he said, referencing Barry Allen’s initial CW debut, during “Arrow” Season 2. “We all, I think, are more confident with our characters than when we had crossed over before.”

“The Flash” airs Tuesday at 8/7c, while “Arrow” airs Wednesday at 8/7c.
