Gwen Stefani Debuts First New Song Since Gavin Rossdale Breakup

Gwen Stefani has shared new music for the first time since
splitting from husband Gavin Rossdale.

The No Doubt frontwoman debuted her emotional ballad
“Used to Love You” during a solo set at MasterCard’s Priceless Surprises concert in New York City on
Saturday, and the track seems to reflect her post-breakup heartache.

“I just want to share a song that I wrote
recently,” Gwen told the crowd. “This song is really special.”

The newly single star launched right into the number’s
intimate lyrics, singing, “Never thought this would happen / I let it sink
in / You’re gone,” as an up-close video of herself played in the
background.

“I
don’t know why I cry / But I think it’s cause I remember for the first time /
Since I hated you / That I used to love you,” she continued in the chorus.

Gwen is
known for drawing creative inspiration from her personal life. She touched upon
past romantic struggles in No Doubt hits like “Don’t Speak” and “Simple
Kind of Life,” and appears to continue the trend with “Used to Love
You.”

“I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to
you,” she sang from the Hammerstein Ballroom stage. “I guess nobody
taught you / Nobody taught you how to love.”

The “Voice” coach and her now-ex released a joint
statement to Access Hollywood on Aug. 3 announcing their decision to part ways.

“While
the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be
partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to
jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” the
former couple said at the time. “To that end, we respectfully request
privacy from the media during this time.”

Gwen and
Gavin wed in 2002 after dating for six years. They share sons Kingston, 9,
Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 19 months.

“Used to Love You” will be
Gwen’s next solo single, she confirmed via Twitter on Saturday following her
show.
