Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Throw An Olympic Viewing Party!

Didn’t make it to London to catch the Olympics Opening Ceremony live? Neither did Healthy Hollywood nor the 4 billion people who are expected to tune into tonight’s event on NBC.

The next big thing to being there is watching it alongside family and friends. So, why not gather up the troops and host a gold medal worthy bash?

Rebecca Dolgin, executive editor of TheNest.com, shares with Healthy Hollywood some suggestions to make a simple yet celebratory party.

First off, instead of making the menu your sole responsibility, take off the pressure and have each of your guests bring their own dish.

“So to get the international flavor of the Olympics, a great idea is to set up an international food buffet, plus make It fun and do it potluck style. Have each of your guests bring something from their favorite global cuisine. These are some of my favorite ideas from Truly Yours Catering in LA,” suggests Rebecca.

United States: Set up a good old fashioned grill out! Have one your guests make different types of sliders. Another great item for this is watermelon. Not only is the fruit so delicious this time of year, it’s very easy to cut into ring to simulate the Olympic rings.

Japan: Have a guest bring sushi rolls with different color roe to stimulate the colors of the rings. If you’re doing this at home, you can get the roe at any specialty grocery store. Set up a sushi making station with kits for everyone to make their own individual and unique rolls for an extra twist. Or, make it easy on everyone and order in!

Greece: Make falafels and complete with dips in the colors of Olympic rings. Buy food dye to color the individual dips.

Italy: From black olives to green peppers and more, make some pizza at home with different color toppings for the rings. Have guests make their own with whatever toppings they prefer and bake it for them.

As for drinks, Rebecca suggests getting creative with cocktails and make different colored drinks to represent the Olympic Rings.

Blue – Blue Lagoon (mix Blue Curacao, vodka, and lemonade)

Gold – Glitterbomb (a shot of Goldschlager dropped into a glass of golden Redbull)

Black – Cuba Libre (mix Coke with rum)

Green – Green Apple Martini (mix vodka with green-apple schnapps)

Red – Red Sangria (mix red wine with fruit).
