‘Heroes’ Form Off Set Secret Society

BURBANK, CA (November 20, 2006) — NBC?s ?Heroes? ensemble is still working on their great plight to save the cheerleader and save the world, but off screen, they?ve turned into super buddies.

Masi Oka, who plays Hiro Nakamura on the new drama, tells Access Hollywood that their downtime together on the set has resulted in an off-camera bonding club. ?We get together a lot, at least once a month. We make a point to see each other because most of the time we see each other and say ?How?s your show going? Oh, hey! Wait a minute, it?s the same show, ‘ ? he laughs. ?When we do get to act with each other it?s such a treat.?

So what does the group do when they get together? Some rather un-extraordinary things, Masi says. ?We have dinner or go out and get drinks. We are talking about a bowling night,? he says. ?We did karaoke once.?

But who?s the karaoke superstar? Access had to ask.

?Tawny [Cypress. aka Simone Deveaux] is amazing. She?s so funny. She goes balls out,? he enthuses. ?She sang ?Maneater.? She does it with such conviction.?

Masi reveals that despite typical activities, they do spice up their nights with ?Heroes? membership cards. ?I think we call it the ?Heroic Society,?? he notes. ?We get laminated cards and things like that. It?s amazing.?

Also stellar is the reaction the cast is getting since the show took off, Masi says.

?It?s surreal. I can?t describe it,? he exclaims. ?We knew we were making something special. We didn?t know the audience was gonna react that way. We feel so fortunate.?
