Homeless Man With A ‘Golden Voice’ Receives Job Offers, Set For TV Appearances

2011 is shaping up to be an extraordinary year for Ted Williams.

The homeless panhandler’s luck drastically changed overnight after a video showcasing his exceptional radio voice went viral on Monday.

In the clip, shot near a Columbus, Ohio highway off ramp by a videographer for The Columbus Dispatch, a sharpened booming radio voice comes from Williams’ tattered frame as the videographer speaks with Williams on the side of the road. Following his panhandling performance, Williams, a Brooklyn native, explains that he attended school for broadcasting, but that drugs, alcohol and “a few other things” derailed his dreams.

Williams’ dream is seemingly are back on track – The Ohio paper has been inundated with calls and e-mails offering opportunities for the golden-voiced sensation, including an as-of-yet unspecified job by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Williams also appeared on CBS’ “Early Show” on Wednesday (clean-shaven and with a new ‘do!), revealing that his first order of business will be traveling to New York to reunite with his elderly mother.

“I haven’t seen my mom in a great deal of time. She doesn’t believe [what’s been happening to me],” Williams told “Early Show” co-anchors Erica Hill and Chris Wragge, while becoming visibly emotional. “She’s 92… One of my biggest prayers that I sent out was that she would live long enough to see me rebound or whatever.

“I guess God kept her around and kept my pipes around to maybe just have one more shot that I would be able to say, ‘Mom, I did do it before,’” he continued. “I might pass away before her or whatever, but my dad didn’t get a chance to see this. But God is good.”

According to the Columbus Dispatch, a $10,000 offer for voice-over work for the Ohio Credit Union League will be presented to Williams on Wednesday. Additionally, the paper was contacted by Kevin McLoughlin, director of post-production films for the National Football League, about another possible job offer.

“My boss said to me, ‘If you don’t get him hired, you’re fired,’” Kevin reportedly told the paper on Tuesday. “I can’t make any guarantees, but I’d love to get him some work.”
