‘Hunger Games’ Getting ‘Twilight’ & ‘Potter’ Treatment With An Extra Film

Suzanne Collins only wrote three books in “The Hunger Games” series, but Lionsgate announced it plans to shoot four films.

According to Deadline, on Wednesday, studio executives told Wall Street analysts that it plans to turn the books — “The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay” — into four separate movies, but did not specify if one book would be split into two parts or if the entire trilogy would be stretched out over four films.

The cast – Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks and Donald Sutherland – have reportedly signed option deals for all four planned movies.

Currently, Lionsgate has only committed to bring the first book to the big screen and the three subsequent films will depend on the success of the first.

“The Hunger Games” began filming in North Carolina last week and is slated to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
