Jaleel White Talks ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Spat: ‘Kym & I Are Fine’

Emotions ran high in the “Dancing with the Stars” ballroom on Monday night, as former “Family Matters” star Jaleel White and partner Kym Johnson performed the rumba amid reports of a heated exchange between them last week.

Access Hollywood caught up with the pair after the danced away with a 25/30 score for their rumba to find out what happened between them.

“This is a competition and people have to understand that the tabloids, sadly, like to have fun with this show,” Jaleel told Access. “But, these are real lives… Kym and I are fine.”

Kym echoed Jaleel’s sentiments telling Access, “It has been a stressful week for us and we’ve gotten through it and we’ve never let anything come between our connection.

“We have to just like disregard those tabloids and just move ahead,” she said.

Jaleel would not go into any specifics about their incident, but said they are ready to move forward.

“I’m done with that. I got to celebrate tonight. We’re still at the top of the leaderboard really,” he said.

As for his emotions on Monday night, Jaleel explained that tapping into his “Family Matters” characters for his dance – his rumba was inspired by the first year he started playing Steve Urkel’s alter ego, Stefan – was tough.

“I never touch these characters. I leave these characters in a vault on purpose and I don’t ever want people to think it’s because I’m ashamed of them, I love these characters. I just, I leave them there on purpose because I protect them,” he explained. “This is the first tribute I’ve done to any character from our show and I practically zoned out while dancing and I’m just happy to have gotten through the dance standing straight up.”
