James Franco Talks Preparations For The Oscars: A Lot Of Singing

James Franco is weeks away from co-hosting the Oscars with Anne Hathaway, and at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, he revealed to Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson new details about his plans for the big night.

For starters – there’s going to be plenty of singing and toe tapping.

“This weekend we did shoot some of the pre-tape sections,” James told Shaun on the SAG Awards red carpet. “Anne Hathaway and I did some dancing, some choreographed dancing, and I recorded some vocal tracks.”

James revealed he has been partaking in voice lessons to help him prepare for the Oscars.

“I had a great coach,” James said. “He pulled it out of me.”

In fact, the singing has put a new notion in the thespian’s head – the idea of heading to the Great White Way.

“It really makes me want to do a musical on Broadway,” he said.

The “127 Hours” star said he has a support group that will be joining him as he takes his spot on the stage at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 27 – his family – including his grandmother, a rising internet celebrity.

“Grandmother is coming to the Oscars,” James confirmed. “The whole family is coming to the Oscars. That’s one of the nice things about being the host is you get to invite a bunch of people, so they are all coming, Grandma is coming and she might just be on camera.”

James said his grandmother might even steal the spotlight.

“She can’t wait for it either,” he laughed.

“Every day she counts the number of hits that she gets on Funny or Die,” he added, referring to a clip where his grandmother uses some choice language for those who won’t see her grandson’s movie. (Click HERE to see the clip). “I think we’re up to 400,000. She gives me updates.”
