James Maslow Reacts To Shocking ‘DWTS’ Elimination

Big Time Rush’s James Maslow and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd were eliminated on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars,” something fans – and the 23-year-old star — were not expecting.

“I didn’t expect to go home tonight, but at the same time I’m not utterly shocked because each week it’s a surprise, and frankly each week there’s one person… that we might feel is gonna go home and rarely have they ever sent that person home,” he told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson after his boot from the ballroom.

Despite his elimination, which was met by shock and boos in the ballroom on Monday night, James explained that he learned a great deal during his time on the ABC series.

“Getting more comfortable with… physically moving. I’m a very physical person, but this type of dance and this type of training has made me even more comfortable, even more confident in a way… I’ve learned specifically some amazing skills about dance, but the show also asked me to talk about certain subjects… about my brother, that I had really never talked about and a lot of these big moments in my life shaped who I am today,” he explained. “I think the show helped me realize that and thinking about that and honing in and harnessing that it’s just power. Knowledge of who you are, where you came from is power and I’m grateful for that. That’s something I didn’t expect to get from the show.”

Peta praised James for his hard work this season.

“I’ve had such talent to work with this season and I’ve been so grateful to have somebody that can [and] has the ability to do the stuff that I really want to do,” Peta said.

Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Amy Purdy with Derek Hough, and Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas will compete in the final round of “DWTS” Season 18 Tuesday night at 8/7c on ABC.
