The Season 3 finale was full of Shonda Rhimes’ trademark drama – the death of the President’s son, a church exploding and a gun pointed at Harrison’s (Columbus Short) head – events that shook Jeff with fear.

“Shonda is ruthless,” the actor told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live.

In fact, when Jeff first read the finale, he had to call the series creator to check in about the dark events.

“I said [to her,]‘Shonda, this scares me,’” he said referring to Cyrus’ storyline.

Billy and Kit asked if leaving Harrison in limbo at the end of the finale (with a gun to his head) is a way for the show to deal with any of Columbus’ personal issues (he was charged with felony battery in March) possibly affecting future involvement on the ABC series.

“I don’t know if that’s what [Shonda] is doing,” he said. “She lives to put us all in jeopardy and scare the bejesus out of us.

“I’m completely hoping there is going to be a way out of this,” he said, referring to Columbus’ character.
