Jen & Vince ‘Break-Up’ Mutants Hold

LOS ANGELES (June 5, 2006) — “The Break-Up” pulled a surprise upset over the mutant world of the “X-Men” at the weekend box office.

The Jennifer Aniston/Vince Vaughn comedy debuted with 38-point-one (m) million dollars to take over as the number one spot from “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which slipped to second place with 34-point-35 (m) million.

Aniston’s split from Brad Pitt last year and her reported romance that began with Vaughn while filming “The Break-Up” helped keep the movie in the public eye.

DreamWorks’ cartoon comedy “Over the Hedge” placed third with 20-point-six (m) million.

The Tom Hanks’ religious thriller “The Da Vinci Code” was fourth, followed by the Tom Cruise action flick “Mission: Impossible Three” in fifth.
