Jennifer Lopez Talks ‘American Idol’ & Possible ‘Glee’ Gig

Jennifer Lopez makes her “American Idol” debut on Wednesday night and she told Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover that the judges’ table dynamic will differ from the days of Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

“Our style… it’s a very collaborative table now. Like, I like talking to the other judges,” Jennifer told Billy and Kit of the new lineup that also includes new judge Steven Tyler and veteran Randy Jackson.

“Because we do what [the contestants] do, we actually have preformed, we’ve actually made records, we’ve actually had careers in this, we have a really clear point of view and a really strong opinion and that comes through,” she explained. “So, we’re very honest because I think it’s more cruel to just not tell them the truth, do you know what I mean? And so we find a way to tell them.”

The cold hard truth did come out occasionally in audition rounds, Jennifer revealed.

“Some of them were great and some of them weren’t. I had one girl sing ‘If You Had My Love’ so beautiful, she kind of put her own… spin on it and it was so beautiful to hear the song, and I love that,” Jennifer continued. “And then somebody came in and sang ‘Jenny from the Block’ and butchered it. And I was like, ‘Wow!’ You never know what you’re going to get!”

The singer told Billy and Kit that prior to heading to “Idol” she spoke to Simon Cowell about possibly doing his new show.

“We spoke about ‘X Factor,’ she explained. “But at the end of the day, I thought this was the right choice for me… I’ve always loved ‘Idol,’ I love it!”

Jennifer’s new gig on the hit FOX reality competition hasn’t stopped the singer from dropping her own music. On Tuesday, she released her new single, “On The Floor” featuring Pitbull, a song she told Billy and Kit she might perform this season on “Idol.”

“Idol” isn’t the only FOX show, where JLo might be showing off her singing skills.

“Will I do Glee? You know it’s funny, Ryan Murphy and I had a meeting, I guess it was a year ago now, it was awhile ago… he’s like, ‘I need to figure out, I want you to do [‘Glee’], but I need to figure out what exactly I want you to do. And I said, ‘You know what, there’s no pressure on this… we’re two people who want to work together, I’m a huge fan of the show. I’ll do it whenever you ask me to… just make it good, make it something that’s going to matter.’”

The triple threat said the “Glee” creator reiterated his interested on Sunday night.

“I saw him at The Globes at one of the after parties for FOX, and he was like, ‘We’re still going to do this! I just want it to be the perfect thing.’ He’s a perfectionist as am I and we’re good for waiting for the right moment,” she added.

“American Idol” returns on Wednesday at 8 PM with a two-hour premiere on FOX.
