Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres & More React To Phyllis Diller Death

Hollywood’s funny elite have reacted to the sad news that legendary comedian and entertainer Phyllis Diller has died at the age of 95.

Joan Rivers released a statement, noting she was crushed by Phyllis death on Monday.

“I’m beyond saddened by the death of Phyllis Diller. We were friends — Melissa and I had a wonderful time with her at lunch just a month ago,” her statement to Access Hollywood read. “The only tragedy is that she was the last from an era that insisted a woman had to look funny in order to be funny. If she had started today, Phyllis could have stood there in Dior and Harry Wiston and become the major star that she was. I adored her.”

Other stars reacted on Twitter, including stand-up comic and actor, Jim Gaffigan.

“RIP Phyllis Diller. Comedy legend. Always made me laugh,” he wrote.

Rosie O’Donnell, who had Phyllis on her most recent talk show, which departed the air earlier this year, posted a photo of the two together and Tweeted simply, “what a joy she was.”

Conan O’Brien sidekick Andy Richter also shared his grief, Tweeting, “Lucky enough to work with Phyllis Diller a few times. Loved her. Sad to hear she died. A hero of mine,” he wrote.

Composer Diane Warren shared a thoughtful message.

“Make the angels laugh Phyllis, they have a naughty sense of humor too! So glad I got to meet U,” she Tweeted.

Ellen DeGeneres wrote, “We lost a comedy legend today. Phyllis Diller was the queen of the one-liners. She was a pioneer.”

Seth MacFarlane Tweeted, “Let’s all drink to the great Phyllis Diller. Peter Griffin is going to miss his mom.”
