Jon Hamm On ‘Mad Men’: ‘Everything Should End’

As “Mad Men” devotees know, Jon Hamm has made no secret that he has no interest in seeing his celebrated character, Don Draper, end up in polyester, and he reiterated his stance in a new interview with the BBC.

“I think it should end,” Jon told the BBC about the series, which airs stateside on AMC.

“Everything should end,” he continued. “I was a big fan of ‘The Office’ [in the UK] because it ended.”

Beyond the end of the show, Jon said the start of Season 5 hasn’t begun yet, and he hasn’t even seen a script.

“I don’t think they exist,” he told the BBC of material for Season 5, which will now air next year on AMC, after contractual issues kept it from having its usual summer debut.

“The way Matthew [Weiner] writes the show is very organically,” Jon said of the show’s creator and writer. “He starts when he starts and eventually there are scripts but I certainly haven’t seen them.”

Jon said when the series does resume filming in “late July or August,” according to the actor, he’ll be directing the first episode.
