Jonas Brothers’ Mom Denise Dishes On Relationship With Her First Daughter-In-Law & Nick Jonas’ Diabetes Battle

Denise Jonas – mother of pop trio The Jonas Brothers – recently watched her eldest son, Kevin, leave the nest as he married Danielle Deleasa in December 2009.

However, the music family matriarch says letting him go was a bit easier as her son settled down with a wonderful woman.

“Danielle is just tremendous – I couldn’t ask for a better daughter-in-law,” Denise told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover of during an interview on Access Hollywood Live on Friday. “She’s got so many similarities like myself, so I tease Kevin sometimes and say, ‘I think you might’ve married your mom!’

“But [Danielle] definitely does have wonderful strong points,” she continued. “She’s a great cook and she really cares about family. I’m really proud of them!”

While Kevin’s marriage seems to be a grand success, and middle brother Joe is embarking on a promising solo career, the Jonas family faced a difficult period five years ago when Nick – who was 13 at the time — was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

“That was a very dark day,” Denise – who appeared on the show to promote the Once Upon A Time Contest as a spokesperson for Lilly Diabetes and Disney Online – recalled, of when her family learned of Nick’s condition. “We didn’t know what we were going to do. We just were overwhelmed. We did not have education about Type 1 Diabetes at all — I didn’t know what it was about.”

The mother of four said her family immediately sought to use their trials and tribulations with the disease to help others who may be dealing with the same lack of knowledge and treatment solutions.

“We quickly learned a lot of medical things, but we also turned it around rather fast to make a difference,” she said. “It’s really been our goal as a family to inspire, encourage, and help people understand day-to-day.”

As for the youngest of the Jonas brothers, Frankie, 10, Denise said he plans to follow in his brothers’ showbiz footsteps.

“Yes, you need to look out for Frankie,” she told Billy and Kit, when asked if her youngest has stardom in his future. “I think he’s on his way… especially this fall.”
